Two of the world’s pre-eminent universities have established a presence in Adelaide: Carnegie Mellon University from the United States and British defence specialist Cranfield University.

And, in what is a real coup for South Australia, world-class institution University College London has signed a landmark agreement to establish a school in Adelaide which will be operational by 2010.

Carnegie Mellon University

Carnegie Mellon University was the first international university to establish a campus in Australia. It is ranked as one of the top 50 universities internationally and many degree programs are ranked top in their fields. With the Australia branch of the Heinz School being located in Adelaide, it provides distinct advantages for students wishing to obtain a Carnegie Mellon degree outside the United States.

University College London (UCL)

Ranked seventh among the world’s top universities, University College London (UCL) has arrived in Adelaide. Its School of Energy and Resources provides unique international education opportunities to those working, or who wish to work, in these key business sectors. The School has been established by UCL working in collaboration with the Government of South Australia and is proud to have Santos Ltd (www.santos.com) as its Foundation Partner. The UCL School of Energy and Resources has a niche programme offering that is industry focused across three streams:

(1) Executive Education – a portfolio of short courses designed for those who work directly in, or provide services to, the energy and resources industries;
(2) Master of Science (MSc) in Energy and Resources – a two-year programme (full-time) providing a rigorous and comprehensive knowledge of contemporary theory and practice in energy and natural resource management, and the economic and legal context within which the industries operate. The programme includes a unique nine-month industry placement;
(3) PhD Research – for research leadership in the energy and natural resources sectors.

The UCL School of Energy and Resources, Australia offers internationally-recognised qualifications, at the forefront of thinking, from one of the world’s leading universities.

 Cranfield University

Cranfield University is a world-renowned centre for postgraduate defence and security studies and research. It has established a Business Development Centre in Adelaide - the first time this has been done outside of the United Kingdom. The Adelaide based Business Development Centre offers long and short courses to defence organisations and industry professionals in areas including electronic warfare, integrated logistics and explosives.

The Royal Institution of Australia

The Royal Institution of Australia (RiAus) is due to open in mid 2009 in Adelaide. It will be the first international ‘satellite’ of the world-renowned Royal Institute of Great Britain (RiGB). The RiAus will be a dynamic and accessible home for science in the heart of Adelaide.
