Confessions of a Caffeineaholic Posted 15 May 2011 by Ammeline from Philippines

Last night at a party, I downed 5 shots – one after the other – of not tequila, vodka or jagermeister... but espresso. Ironic huh? Who chugs coffee before going to the dance floor instead of a beer or a jagerbomb or <insert favorite alcoholic beverage here>? Well, guess I’m that much of a caffeineaholic.

Coffee’s one of the most widely consumed beverages worldwide along with tea and beer. According to the International Coffee Organization (ICO), about 1.4 billion cups of coffee are consumed by people worldwide on a daily basis...that’s more than 500 billion cups a year!

Personally, I consume at least 1 cup of coffee a day and 5 cups at most depending on how much brain cells are needed to be activated so I could fully function and survive an Ammie day. It’s like my own personal brand of petrol (not heroin, if I may just borrow the infamous Twilight line), for without it the Ammie engine just won't work. So how am I like without a cup of coffee you might ask? Like a zombie. And honestly, you wouldn’t want to see me coffee-deprived because I will (without having second thoughts) eat your brains out. Seriously. :)

I loved coffee so much that my mom fed me coffee instead of milk when I was a baby. True story. Now I know why I’m vertically challenged. ON A SIDE NOTE: Hi Ma! :D Anyway kidding aside, I never really used to love coffee. As a matter of fact, I hated it. But like most love stories, it all starts with good ol’ hating before eventually falling madly in love. Yep. Coffee and I had the same love story. Glad that even though I'm here in Australia right now, I know it’s one of the few things I certainly won’t miss!

Along Hindley-Rundle Street alone, you can already find more than 10 different coffee shops standing just a few blocks away from each other. For a coffee avid fan like me, that’s enough to keep me happy! I just wish they’d offer more variety though, like custom iced coffee or a frappuccino. I know it’s not something one would normally look for since winter is fast approaching but trust me when summer does come, you WILL find the need for this!

What about you - are you a self-confessed coffee addict? How much coffee do you consume each day? Which cafe is by far your most favourite here in Adelaide? For me, I'm not really picky. So long as my coffee's dairy-free, then I'm 110% good!

Hope all’s having a great weekend!

xx,

A.
