South Australia, the Festival State Posted 20 April 2011 by Sandra from Austria
Topic - Adelaide: fun or boring?

Adelaide is amazing concerning events, festivals and other social activities held throughout the year.

Especially from January till March it is busy in this small town :)

The event season starts with the German ‘Schützenfest’ followed by the ‘Tour Down Under’ and leading to ‘Australia Day’. After celebrating ‘Chinese New Year’ other community festivals such as the ‘Greek Festival’ and the ‘Italian Carnevale’ take place. Then it slowly goes over to music, arts and dance hosting two festivals ‘Future’ and ‘Big Day Out’ while having the ‘Fringe’ and ‘WOMADelaide’ (see pic). Last but not least the motorsport highlight ‘Clipsal 500’ marks the end of the busy season. The Valentine’s Day celebration nearly goes down with all the stuff going on :)

Huuuuh... finally some time to concentrate on Uni again before in September ‘Malaysian Carneval’ is celebrated in the city. After that a charity event ‘Light the Night’ takes place and one week later the ‘OzAsia Festival’ (see pic).

The ‘Zombiewalk’ (see pic) at the beginning of October is another highlight held in the streets of Adelaide before the Christmas celebrations start with the ‘Christmas Pageant’.

Attending all of those activities will be hard, but nothing is impossible :)

By the way some of the events have no entry fees and even if they have there is always the opportunity to volunteer on-site. That means you can enjoy the atmosphere for free and at the same time get work experience for your resume.

Good luck!!!

Sandra
