Power welcomes new legion of fans

The Port Adelaide Football Club has launched its International Student Supporter Group (ISSG) to help welcome overseas students to Australian culture and the sport of Aussie Rules Football.
The Power, in partnership with Education Adelaide and Multicultural SA, will make 1000 free tickets available to international students living in Adelaide to the remaining home matches of this 2010 Toyota AFL Premiership Season.
Port Adelaide Football Club’s Community Development Manager, Darren Adamson, says the initiative is a fantastic way for international students to truly experience footy.
“This initiative will provide a cultural experience for the students, and they will have the chance to integrate with different cultures and learn about a great Australian sport,” Darren said.
The ISSG was recently launched at the Power v Carlton match and 1200 students turned up to watch the game.
“The majority of students had never seen a live football match let alone a football, so it was great getting them involved and having a kick before the game” Darren said.
With a successful turn out the club has developed a committee made up of international students to promote remaining matches to students and to develop social activities that add to the experience.
The International Student Supporter Group is part of the Power’s dedicated Community Program.
