StudyAdelaide backs a winner

23 Feb 2010

The Adelaide City Council is proud to announce that it is a sponsor of Adelaide United as the club prepares to do battle with the best Asia has to offer.

The Council joins Education Adelaide and the South Australian Tourism Commission in a sponsorship deal that will see the StudyAdelaide brand used on the players’ strip during United’s upcoming AFC Champions League campaign.

Adelaide City Council Chief Executive Officer Peter Smith says highlighting Adelaide to overseas students further increases the City’s standing as a high quality study destination.

“At the moment about 5000 students from overseas live within the Council’s boundaries,’ Mr Smith says.

“They form strong friendships with South Australians and provide our business community with high quality potential employees and excellent business links throughout the world.”

Adelaide United CEO Sam Ciccarello says it’s fantastic to have StudyAdelaide back on board as the major front of shirt sponsor for our Asian Champions League campaign.

“Being in such a prestigious tournament we will be able to spread the message of StudyAdelaide in Asia while we compete in the AFC Champions League, both at home and away,” Mr Ciccarello says.

“StudyAdelaide has been with the club previously in the AFC Champions League and we believe that with the Adelaide United brand continuing to gain exposure and familiarity both here and across Asia, this partnership will be an extremely beneficial one.”

Education Adelaide Chief Executive Denise von Wald has welcomed the sponsorship announcement and says the already successful StudyAdelaide brand will gain further recognition in important overseas markets such as China and South Korea.

A record number of international students studied in South Australia in 2009 – when the latest figures were released in November 2009 there were more than 33,500 international students in Adelaide.

These latest results reinforce the strategy to grow the international education industry and position Adelaide as Australia’s learning City.

“We recognise and acknowledge the real socio-economic value international students contribute to the South Australian community,” Ms von Wald says.

Education is the fourth largest South Australian export at a value of $892 million.
