Topic - Adelaide: fun or boring?

Is Adelaide fun or boring??

An interesting question this one depending on your expectations. I have lived in Adelaide my entire life so I can assure you its nothing like New York, Tokyo or Sydney and can definitely look boring from the surface!

BUT, when you are studying in Adelaide, there is definitely an abundance of things that can make your life here a fun and interesting place to be. Open most days there is movie theatres in convenient places, sports clubs everywhere that are very welcoming to new people, many different, cheap and unusual places to eat, the zoo, shopping complexes, beautiful walks and even better beaches, ice skating complex and night clubs just to name a few things to keep you entertained while in Adelaide. (The worst thing about Adelaide is that most shops close at 5.30 during the week and even earlier on weekends!)

Of course, Adelaide can get boring especially after you have done these things a million times. But, at the end of the day if you have awesome friends and an imagination you can make anything fun any day!

When Adelaide does get boring, especially in the summer holidays take a trip to other cities in Australia, these days plane tickets are very cheap so there is no excuse!

Join as many clubs as possible and go out of your way to meet new people and then Adelaide will be one of the best places you visit!

Fun or boring aside, have you ever had an 'Adelaide moment'? An 'Adelaide moment' is when you bump into your bestie in Rundle Mall, or ex-girlfriend or boyfriend at a nightclub. I had an 'Adelaide moment the other day - but it didn't involve any of my ex-girlfriends. I flew into Adelaide from Pt Lincoln early one morning with some international guests I was hosting for a week. We all got off the plane slighty sleepy and a little grumpy as the day before was long and the night a little longer. Anyway, I had to take a taxi to the other side of town to take one of my guests to an appointment. The taxi ride was about 30 minutes and on the way we stopped off for some breakfast. When we got to our destination we jumped out of the car and it drove off. My guest then told me she had left her very expensive camera with all the photos of her trip to Adelaide, in the car. Oh no! I told her to "go to the meeting and I will call all the taxi companies and ask them to put out a call to all drivers". Remember how I mentioned I was tired and a little grumpy? Well I had no idea what taxi company had dropped us off, or the name of the taxi driver. Finding that camera would be like finding a needle in a haystack. I rang all the taxi companies and asked them to let me know if they found it. Secretly I thought I, or my guest, would never see that camera again. So an hour goes by and my guest is finished with her meeting. We then needed to travel to the other side of Adelaide in another cab. About 15 minutes into our new taxi ride another taxi pulled up along side us at a set of stop lights. The driver of the other taxi looked very familiar...I thought to myself 'that is the same driver that dropped us off earlier today'. I recognised the way he slouched at the wheel. I said to my present taxi driver "follow that cab". He did. We chased the taxi for about 5km before we caught him at another set of stop lights. My guest and I were praying that I had recognised the correct taxi driver and that the camera would still be in the car. At the lights I shouted to the other taxi driver, "look in the back seat of your car". He didn't remember me at first and I think he thought I was a little crazy. Then I could see a flicker of recognition flash across his face and he looked in the back seat and pulled up...yes, you guessed it...the camera! This was my latest 'Adelaide moment'. Needless to say my guest, who is from Jakarta (a city of more than 20 million people) was completely amazed. I told her that type of thing could only happen in Adelaide. What is your latest 'Adelaide moment'?
